Gary Morava, groundbreaking gymnast, and three-time member of the U.S. National Team. Though short in stature, Morava was a gymnastics giant. His spectacular career included leading the 1969 Hersey Huskies gymnastics squad to a second place IL High School State Championship team finish, while earning first place in all-around himself. Morava went on to lead Southern Illinois University's collegiate team to the 1972 NCAA Championships. He was also awarded the 1972 Nissen Award, the gymnastics equivalent of the Heisman Trophy. Tragedy struck during a practice while Morava prepared to compete for the 1974 US Team meet in the Soviet Union. A catastrophic fall broke his neck.
