Antoine is a free representation of Saint Anthony of Padua. We find elements of the iconography of the saint such as the lily and the fish. The lily is a symbol of purity. The fish are the illustration of an episode in his life: Antoine came to preach in Rimini but the inhabitants refused to listen to his sermon. He then turns towards the sea and speaks to the fish.
