Light from the past

Oil · 2026

Peter Duhaj's painting presents an antique lantern, meticulously rendered to highlight its heavily rusted metal surface. Flaking paint and deep orange corrosion textures are vividly depicted, contrasting with subtle hints of dark blue. The lantern rests on a weathered wooden floor, whose planks recede into a softly illuminated background. The interplay of warm rust tones against the cool, muted grays and browns of the wood creates striking visual depth. Precise brushwork captures every intricate detail, from the lantern's perforated top to the worn grain of the timber, emphasizing the object's rich, aged character.
